About The Event

Three part course - dates are Wednesday 6th & 27th of February & Wednesday 20th March 2018 - 2pm to 4.30pm

Children learning English as an Additional Language are a very diverse group and the ‘EAL’ tag alone doesn’t give a teacher the information and understanding needed to ensure appropriate provision, according to individual context and their English proficiency. It’s easy enough to find EAL ‘top tips’ online but the classroom reality of teaching EAL learners needs a more strategic, informed approach. Fortunately, EAL pedagogy is an opportunity to enhance language awareness teaching for all.

This EAL workshop series will give attendees accessible input over three sessions, along with plenty of opportunity to discuss, plan collaboratively and feedback.

The sessions will cover the basic theory and key principles of multilingual cognition/language development, (including EAL assessment and proficiency tracking and the importance of first language) along with practical, research informed teaching strategies which can be tried out in the classroom in between sessions.

All resources, further reading and research links will be made available digitally.

The course prioritises building professional capital and is particularly suitable for EAL leads and teachers attending together.

Suitable for Subject leaders, Teachers & Teaching Assistants

Cost: £130 for all three sessions
